help with friends volvo cooling fan

Post by ncfirefighter46 »

hello everyone friend of mine that lives next door has a volvo v70 or a c70 not sure what exact model but the cooling fan stays on a kills his batt, i figure a relay stuck but i did not find a relay but there is a flat gray box on the fan shourd motor so i just unplugged the main wire to it so it does not drain the batt. so my question is? the gray box needs to be replaced on the fan shourd or is there a relay some where else? and can that part be picked up a a local parts store? seeing that is his only car. i would like to get it fixed for him tomorrow after church. i think he said it was a 2002 or 2003 model sorry i can not get more info

thanks for all the help

is there a check engine light on? if so read for codes.

Could be as simple as a bad ECT sensor or a bad electrical fan motor

no check engine light no codes, the fan will not cut off, stays run when you cut the car off and take the key out

That's the cooling fan relay, and yes it does sound like it needs to be replaced...it should cut the fan off after 10 mins at the most, even if the engine is still hot.
