How to drain the power steering fluid?

Post by kelvin6 »

I just want to find a way to suck out all that power steering fluid and replace it with fresh fluid. I'm thinking of moving to synthetic ATF fluid for the power steering to improve viscosity at certain temps.

So any ideas on how to suck out 0.8 quarts of ATF?

I did that a few months ago - I used an old windex spray bottle - Used the spray nozzle to suck out the old fluid through the filler hole.

I then filled it up with Mobil One Synthetic ATF. That made a noticeable difference in the steering.

btw, drive the car around the block to warm up the ps fluid before emptying out. But dont do it after a really long drive - the fluid gets pretty hot.

hth.
