i bought this wagon in febuary,ran great till june, cel light always on,one day didnt start,pressed #4 &#6 fuse ,car started ran.
next time a month later tried fuses no start,tapped fuel relay car started and ran.bought a new fuel relay,ran and then quit.
i then did a tuneup distributor cap,rotor and spark plugs car started ran great for a week.i have checked the 25 amp fuse in the
engine compartment very good connection,intank pump runs,could not hear inline pump.checked return line from fuel
regulator just drops of fuel,with engine turning over,have spark at coil and plugs,so today i pull the vacuum line from the regulator
and spray a flammable into the intake manifold engine fires ups and then runs like normal? i bought a inline pump and filter
just have not installed yet.could i also need a intank pump? any ideas on what is going on please?

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

If you suspect that the sock filter on the in-tank pump is starting to break down then you should pull the in-tank pump and change the filter. This was a service item on the older 240s however, it was removed from the service list in 1990 as the filters were better.

I am of the opinion that if something isn't broken don't mess with it.

You obviously have a problem with the main pump as you can't hear it. Change that and the filter and see how it goes.

What model volvo ? You didn't mention fuel filter. has that been changed?

It's a 1990 240 DL, right side of post. He has a filter ready to go in.

thank you just one dumb question on my part-i did a obd i got a code of 333-333-332 with the wire in socket 2 ,in socket 6
code was 111-111-111-i could not find a error message for the socket 2 test?

I think you may be reading the codes wrong. An example of a code would be 3 - 1 - 1, speedometer signal.

Each code has 3 digits only with the digits being separated by a 2.5 second interval.

Try reading the codes again following the instructions pinned at the top of the forum.

If you are getting 1 -1 -1 on socket 2 you have no fault codes stored for the fuel system.
