Hi, I'm about to go look at a 2000 S80 with 124K miles for a possible purchase. I currently own a 850GLT, and have learned through this site many repairs for that car. I have a couple questions.
I'm considering a few different models from this period like the V70, S70, and S60. How does the S80 stack up as far as ease of maintenance and reliability?
What mechanical defects common to the S80 should I watch out for when examining the vehicle?
Thanks.

The main things I would question is the tranny and timing belt. The tranny is the most common problem area, the 2000 models are not as bad as the 1999 model, seeing as '99 was the first year for the S80. If it is a T6 then definatly check the tubos. The milage is not bad for that year. My brother has an S80 T6 with around 120k on it and it has a small flutter when changing from 1st to 2nd gear but that's it and it's not enough to raise concern. I have a 2001 S80 T6 Executive with 115k on it and it looks and drives like it's about 3yrs old. If need anything more in-depth let me know.
I want it due to the shear inability to continue life without it!!
