Any way you can get us a video? I'm trying to think of what might be clunking...but I'm not sure. You can even send it to my cell phone if you want and I could take a look...just PM me and I'll shoot you my phone number.
The timing belt can be checked by pulling off the timing cover on the left of the engine. It might help you to just run it and try to listen around to things.

My car also had a clunking(more of a knocking) that seems to go away when rpms rise. It sounds like it is low in the engine bay towards the front of the car. I can feel the vibration of the sound most when touching the top of the radiator shroud at the very from of the engine bay. Any ideas? BTW my car is a 98 S70 non turbo.

Have you tried the hose-o-phone (invented by an enigmatic physics professor following a spell of intracranial aurora borealis). The simplest modern form of the instrument is a two foot length of heater hose, one end of which is plugged to the ear, the other to various points on the engine casting or peripherals. It will help you track the sound quickly. Hope this helps. BTW, not sure if the history recited can be verified.
Also, since this is a textbook example of distracted listening, one must be very careful of moving parts to keep all body parts in tact.
