Directional Signals 'Mis-Firing' !!

Post by EzgoinLegend »

Hi All,
I recently purchased a 2001 Volvo V70 (24T). It's a one-owner car, 115K miles, runs & looks like new, (honestly), has
a wonderfully clean CarFax, and was priced quite a few $$ below KBB & NADA suggested prices.

The day after I bought it, the front right directional bulb blew, or so I thought - it turned out to be only the parking light,
but it still affected the way the directional signal worked. About 20 minutes after it blew & I went to change the bulb,
the directional signal miraculously began working again!! This is now happening on & off about twice a week! We'll turn
on the right turn signal, it will start to blink just fine, then stop, and the computer will show a blown bulb - but 5 minutes
later, everything will be just fine again!!
Had the car checked at the dealer, & they could not find any shorts, elect. draws, Nothing! Now from what I've read,
Volvo's are known for blowing bulbs, but this is not a case of the bulb always blowing, but that the directional malfunctions
quite often, then returns to normal as if nothing ever happened!!
Anyone else ever experience anything like this? Would appreciate hearing your 'Tales of Woe', if any,... Thanx !

Sounds like the circuit is intermittently opening due to maybe a loose connector or corroded bulb socket? Just a guess. When the tech tested it, the circuit was fine. Had the test been done when the circuit was open it might have easier to track the problem. Good luck.
