My cooling fan is not running when it should be.
The car overheated in the Spring once and again last month. The cooling fan didn't work. However, the cooling fan comes on briefly immediately after starting the car. I have replaced the cooling fan relay and at first the cooling fan seemed to operate normally. Then the car overheated again. So I had the coolant flushed today at Jiffy Lube and they advised that the thermostat is working normally. I left the car running in the driveway and the cooling fan never ran!
I wonder if the cooling fan relay I just installed is defective or if there is a problem with the ECU? Any suggestions?

You should replace your thermostat once every 60k miles...just to be safe.
As for the fan..... yes, you might have a bad relay despite it has been replaced recently. With a Volvo scanner, I can easily diagnose the fan and its circuit by activating the fan. However, you can diagnose the fan without the scanner. You just have to have a wiring schematic and some electrical knowledge.
