Problems removing headrests *the second time*

Post by jasonw754 »

I've got a complicated problem with my 2008 XC-90. I recently installed after-market replacement headrest monitors; had no problem with the tabs, removed the headrests just fine, fished the wires through and everything was good... until the headrest monitors became faulty after the first big trip we used them on. I removed them and put the originals back in and then exchanged them for a higher quality set. I thought that it would be easy having the experience already, but I was quite dismayed to discover that yanking the wires through the posts must have broken the plastic button part of the headrest tabs. The original headrests are locked right back into place, but there is nothing to push to get them to release again.

I can reach my hands all the way up to the bottom of each post reasonably well, and I can feel a long horizontal metal prong of some sort, but working blindly I just can't get it. I fished out the broken plastic pieces too and the best I can tell is that they angled upward to connect to some piece that's out of my reach. If there is a diagram out there shows what this assembly looks like under the leather I'd love to know where to find it.
