Hi all forum people,
I own a beautiful blue 1997 Volvo 960 sedan. Alas, she has an issue with the driver's side power window stuck in the down position. Any ideas concerning troubleshooting and repairs? I'd like to get it functioning again! Thanks!
1997 960 Sedan Power Window issue!
I've had luck with this problem simply by cleaning the internals of the window switch.
It's a pretty easy task but go slow and careful because some of the internals are small and like to disappear. Remove the switch from the panel (the door panel does not need to be removed). Carefully dismantle the switch, the plastic is probably a bit brittle. Open it up and you'll be surprised at the muck that's in there, lots of greasy fuzz. Watch for small bearings or springs. WD40 it to clean it up, add a bit of lube as appropriate, reassemble, reinstall.
Good luck.

I had the car examined by a friend's body shop. He found out the master switch contacts are worn out. He has the window up and the window switch for that window disconnected until this is repaired. I just ordered a new master switch from IPD this morning and should have it in 4 days from Oregon. And the loose door panel is also repaired. So life is much better especially from the cooler weather we are experiencing here in Eastern Tennessee. Every other Volvo owner comes out and says hi to me and we have a pleasant conversation about our cars and ourselves. I had to get my starter rebuilt locally. One of the technicians at the rebuild shop now has a 240. And he will be visiting this forum. You meet the nicest folks who drive Volvos.

Yes, it is the switch for that window. Did disconnect it and take it apart to clean it. The contacts are very worn on this one. I ordered a new one from IPD and should have it soon.
Thank you for the question, I had the same problem in my '97 940 sedan. I knew the contacts for that one switch were bad when I could go down and not go up while all the other windows worked just fine. Thank you for giving me permission to pull out the switch panel, disconnect it, and find the source of my problem. I cleaned it with alcohol and a q-tip. The window works just fine now. It saved me a bundle. Again Thank you for the forum. I have other issues but will work on those separately.
