it's Stephanie a.k.a. CRAZY GIRL, got new VOLVO
I am soooo happy, I am with car again! I decided against getting a SAAB, went with VOLVO again(you kind of get a soft spot for the things) & those who know me know I hated my last VOLVO. I went from 94 850 NT to 98 V70 GLT, I LOVE IT!!!!! It's white & cute & fast. So, you know I have a question or five. NO OWNERS MANUAL, how in the hell do you turn on the headlight wipers????? Also should my car have a third seat if so I want one(to seperate the girls 2&7 they fight like CRAZY!)& where can I get one cheap?? I will HAPPILY take ANY advise on what to do & not to do as far as keeping my car running. I bought it from a dealer in Atlanta 2 owners before me have most of the records & clean carfax! If you have a BOMB to drop. I wanna know, Iam prepared but PLEASE be gentle. Give me all your knowledge, you guys are the BEST!! And to Matthew, many THANKS for this website, so many helpful & GREAT people. I actually get on just to see if I can learn anything, no matter if I need help or not!
Congrats!
You may want to start with this:
http://apps.volvocars.us/ownersdocs/199 ... 70_000.htm
Your car's manual.
Most of the maintanance from your previous volvo applies to the this one. Whether or not you know, but they mechanically the same, except your V70 has a low pressure turbo (no flame trap here). The V70/S70 were basically very refined versions of the 850 (for the S70, that would be the last).
The things I would check now would be the tranny fluid (this might be harder than your old volvo, take off the Throttle body cover, the plastic cover on the right lower corner of the engine and pull out the yellow dipstick. Normal fluid would be reddish clear, if brown please replace the fluid at a mechanic.
I would also check the drive belt, the belt that is visible from the left (when looking at the engine from the front of the car), make sure it's not worn or cracking. Also have the timing belt checked (unless your V70 maintanance records say its been changed in the past 70000 miles).
Check the obvious, fluid levels, air filter, lights and tire pressure. Enjoy your new car!

The headlight wipers are activated when you use the windshield washer, they wash the headlights at the same time. There is no way to turn them on and have them work all the time. I would imagine that you can buy the third seat somewhere, maybe from ebay or someone on this site. You could probably buy it from Volvo but it would cost you an arm and a leg and probably other body parts. The 98 is a good year! The throttle bodies went to crap in 99. Is yours a turbo or NA? Good luck!

Yes it is a Turbo & I checked with Volvo last night online that Damn seat is
$800.00!!! so I'm thinking my girls can keep on keepin on, they can scratch each others eyes out if they want to, Iam NOT spending $800.00 for a third seat. the dealer put in new fuel injectors, the day I bought it. I havent had a chance to go through all the service records yet. My radio is very distorted any ideas?? I really love this car, never saw myself as a "Wagon Chic" I drove a few converts. but i have had 5(not volvos) & really Im over those even my kids wanted the wagon Go Figure! Please Keep The Advise Rolling In!!!
Thanks, Steph[/img]

Mr. Norm
That 3rd seat is a dealer installed option, which means a huge markup. Try FCP Groton for a new one, Erie VoVo for a recycle from a boneyard. Do some work and you can find it for less.
P.S. It's not much of a seat, nor is it real safe, which is why Volvo NA won't install it and they leave it to the dealer.

True. When I was a kid, I road in one of those seats before and believe me, they are somewhat uncomfortable and sometimes unsafe. What happens when you get rear-ended by another driver? I won't describe, but seeing that the V70 she bought lives in a urban area, where rear-ending occurs, I'd think about the third seat a bit more carefully.Mr. Norm wrote: P.S. Secondly I would use that area for groceries and other stuff that needs to be transported. Your not going to bury your kids who sit there in groceries! This also brings up another safety question, what about flying projectiles? Anything like cans, hard objects or other loose items sitting in the cargo are proned to move around in a accident (particularly in a frontal crash) and possibly strike the occupants. This is more of a problem in wagons, because unlike the sedan which has a seperate trunk, the wagon has the cargo area open. One can of soup in a car that crashes frontal, would have one hell of a force (It will cause serious injury or death)!
To reduce the chances of that happening, use a barrier of some sort and try not to use the third row seats w/ groceries. I'm tired of typing...
