New to the car and this board

Hello,

I just bought a 89 740GLE yesterday 09/25/05.
Got a fair deal on the car and I'm hoping to make it my daily driver.
My second car is a 91 Camaro Convertible and I bought the Volvo so I can take the camaro off the road and only take it to car shows and little weekend trips.

This is my first Volvo and I know nothing about it, but am having some minor problems with it.
I got in it yesterday and it started up fine, but I noticed a bit of a rough idle.
Got in it this morning and it just did not want to start. After trying for about 5 min... it finally decided to comply with my demand and started running.

I'm thinking the timing might be off a bit, since it has a rough idle, but what might be the problem with the cold start? It starts just fine once you get it running and it warms up. So I don't think the timing has anything to do with the cold start problem.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
Again...I'm new to the car and don't yet know where parts are located.
I could tell you anything on my Camaro and where to find it and fix it, but on this Volvo... I need schooling.
:)

Welcome to the wonderful world of Volvo. I was in your shoes thirteen months ago when I bought a 1986 740 GLE for my daughter to drive. I had a few bugs to work out, which took about six weeks. After that, the car has been very dependable and I am not afraid to drive it anywhere. Also, it is one of the easiest cars I have ever worked on.

I suggest you search this forum for my posts about fuel pumps. I sounds as if you have the potential to be suffering from a similar problem as I with intermittent starting issues.

Good luck with your new to you car and let us know if you have any questions at all, as I am sure we have all experiences one thing or another.
