CV boot/ Control arm help

Post by loumarkd »

96 850 Turbo wagon

I already have 2 print out guides on how to do the CV boot and control arm.

I am replacing the CV boot and control arm on the passenger side. I can NOT get the bolt out of the top of the knuckle on the control arm to remove the CV boot/axle. I can NOT get the control arm out of the knuckle either. I have gotten the 15mm nut off of the other end of the knuckle bolt, put it on backwards and tried to beat the hell out of the knuckle bolt to get it loose but it will not budge.

Would it be better if I disconnected the back bolts on the control arm first to see if that will allow me to get the knuckle off?

Thanks!

loud..

I kinda had the same problem.. i disconnected the two rear bolts that connect the control arm to the frame then i loosened the bolt that attaches the control arm to the lower side of the steering knuckle. That lower bolt is a "pinch bolt " after removing the bolt I sprayed alot of penetrating oil in that area and spread the knuckle open and hit it with a hammer while prying down on the control arm and it broke loose.

As far as the cv axle..i couldnt get the cv axle out of the hub. I took the hub and cv axle to a shop and they used a "large" sledge hammer to knock the cv axle out of the hub.

I found it easier to remove the 2 inboard bolts first.
That's how it's done in this write-up:

sorry for yelling. lol. I have just hit a bump in the road with everything I have been doing on this car. ie PCV breather system, oil cooler lines, odometer gear, alignment....

Thanks for the advise. I will take off the inner 2 control arm bolts and see if that will allow me to get the axle and control arm off.

Thanks!

I had the same problem 2 days ago only found its rather easy if you waggle the arm up n down make sure its not sitting on the bolt nor pushing the bolt up. It will come right out!
