S70 Engine Stabilizer Mount

S70 Engine Stabilizer Mount

98 S70 2.4L Non-Turbo, Auto.
The engine stabilizer bushing on top is wore out. I dont want the OEM one because it requires a special tool and I dont want the two-piece poly one from IPD because of the excess vibration. Will this from Beck/Arnley work? I know it would cost more than just the bushing. But to me it might be worth the trouble it saves.

I think that is the 1999 & 2000 model mount. Your 98's looks much different. - it's sort of a triangle shape.

Pressing the bushing in isn't hard. Freeze it overnight, and then "grease" it with cold soapy water, and it should go in without too much of a fuss. I've got to replace mine again, but I would definitely advise you to stay away from the poly mounts.

I just replaced my upper mount with the blue poly one from IPD and am happy to report none of the bad experiences that other people have had.

I don't know if it's because of the way I installed it or what... but this was my installation procedure:

-Inserted both pieces on both sides.
-Lightly threaded the bolt back in (hand tight).
-Start the car, remove parking brake.
-Have a helper put the car in Drive and hold the brakes.
-While that's being done, firmly tighten down the mount bolt.

-Done!

The only time I noticed any additional vibration is when I started the car. I can feel it in the brake pedal for about a half second and then it goes away. It's nothing like some people have described.

Also, the engine sounds a little different under load. I'm not making this up... I know what the placebo effect is, and I wouldn't make a claim like that as far as "performance" or anything, but the engine definitely has a slightly different pitch, especially under load on the freeway.

Yea, the one in the picture is the 99 and later mount. I was wondering, is there anything different from 98 to 99 about where that mount bolts to on the engine? What I mean is, would the later style in the picture bolt on in place of what mine has?

It won't fit - the top of the 99 engine is shaped a little different. There's no place on the 98 engine to bolt that one down.

Ed - mine might have been due to having a broken lower engine mount that I didn't know about at the time. I replaced the upper one at like 140K; the lower one got real bad around 170. I also think the 99's and 2000's feel a bit smoother than the 98 - the design of that upper mount might have something to do with that.

So, who sells the special tool for installing the OEM bushing? Volvo?

Nah Im not doing that. I found the entire mount for the 98 so I guess i'll just spend the extra and replace it. Thanks for all the help though.
