Ignition key sticks
My V70 XC has a problem with the ignition switch. When you try to turn the car off, the key will not turn all the way back. You have to sit and jiggle the key (sometimes for 5-10 minutes) until it finally turns completely back. Do I need a new ignition switch or is it something else?

Is it an auto, if so make sure the locking trigger has fully disengauged on the shift lever as when these stick in (its the part you depress to move the shift lever) it locks the key in the slot - Mike

Yes the key does stick after rotating past the wheel lock position. If it gets this far, I wouldn't think it is the transmission link, but I'm an amature, and would trust some of the more senior members on this call.
Mine did the same thing ONCE. I thought I was stranded, but I forced the key and it felt like something broke. I IMMEDIATELY drove home, and then I gave the ignition key slot a shot of TriFlow (a Teflon type lubricant). I have had no issues since. This incident gave me motivation to do a more through search. In that search I learned how to remove the column coverings, how to then disconnect the steering wheel key mechanism from the start mechanism. Once this has been done, you can start and run the car with a screw driver. This is all predicated on the key unlocking the steering wheel lock. I assume my lock mechanism is on the path of failure. Eventually I MAY need to replace it. Should I get stuck remotely, I now carry the tools to make the screwdriver start. You can take a similar approach, or replace the lock mechanism now (not for the faint hearted) so a costly dealer issue.
