How to drain transmission fluid?
Re: How to drain transmission fluid?
I have one more question, does the drain plug for the transmission have a gasket on it? I did not find any on mine when I removed it.
Aluminum washer, same as for the oil I believe.

Ok thanks, I can see the crush washer in the pic above and mine does not have it. But I have not seen any transmission fluid leak. Is this washer sold in auto parts stores or do I have to get it online? And fluid wise I just bought "supertech" brand from walmart because it was cheap, is that ok?

i buy my oil filters (mann) and crush washers online from fcp , i always order a few combined with the others parts i buy otherwise if local parts store does not have them, the dealer does carry them.
make sure you get the aluminium crushers as i have seen copper ones the copper ones are harder,
as for the atf oil it has to be be dexron iii or more recent compliant, i use the catrol semi synth dexron vi i feel it protects more, others here use mobil 1 , i d ont know that brand that you are asking about .

The quick easy answer is basically - Fresh new Supertech is probably better than the old most likely burnt out crap that WAS in your transmission. Last time I did it I used some Pennzoil which is sacreligious in my book, but I needed to get it done. I'll likely be using Amsoil next time. (Mobil 1 and Castrol are also great alternatives as well as Royal Purple.)
BUT... If you're really going to do a good job...it will save you and help you in the long run to be using good brand name stuff.
If you drain from the pan without doing anything else, you SHOULD get 3.2 quarts IIRC.

I just did the 1 quart drain and replace and it made a huge difference! I thought i had bad motor mounts with the way the engine was bucking during shifts but now it is smooth as silk with just one drain and fill!
