fitting a new throttle sensor

Post by timmo »

having recently had the etm removed/cleaned & refitted & new software downloaded , can i now fit a new throttle sensor without having it re-programmed by volvo ? this because my v70 is still revving irregulary not responding at all when it revs up to 2000 on its own accord !

there is no throttle sensor per se. The whole ETM thing is a throttle body and sensor.

If the dealer did the cleaning/software update and that did not help the problem, then you may still qualify for a replacement ETM under warranty, i. (200,000 miles or 10 years)

Sadly the 200K/ 10 year limit doesn't apply in the UK, at a guess "Timmo" is in the UK (East Anglia).

Cleaning the ETM and a software drop won't cure a worn out ETM, you can try the main dealer for a cost to replace it or get the old unit removed and repaired by bba remanufacturing based in Rochester (get a price from both), repairing your own ETM negates any re-programming or getting Volvo to fit a new ETM will include re-programming. For a future proof upgrade to the ETM consider xemodex for a replacement unit although this tends to get costly when you factor in 24 hour postage via DHL etc - Mike
