Advice on a '96 855r for sale...
Re: Advice on a '96 855r for sale...
My last 850 had the same problem. About half way through the wipe cycle it would lift right off the window and leave a large space uncleared. I tried everything from different wipers, tightening the screw that holds the arm on, and even taking the arm off and hammering it into more of a curve, and it still didn't work properly. My next guess was that the arm was shot, specifically the spring holding it down on the window. Then my car died, so I never really solved the issue, and it popped up again on this car so I figured I'd see of anyone else has dealt with it before.

For the most part, you can bend them to make more contact. The 850 arms are especially prone to this after years; if bending it doesn't work, seek out some S/V70 wiper arms from a 98-2000 models. They'll fit directly, and are a bit sturdier. They're prone to it a little too, though.

I would have to agree with JRL. I don't feel this car is worth more than $1,000.
I've been toying with selling my '96 850R wagon, white with black interior. About 130k (the odometer gear broke about six months prior to my purchasing the car...but it also sat for a couple months due to blown headgasket...the gear has been fixed), new headgasket, timing belt, PCV system, full tune up, I will be installing new front and rear strut mounts shortly, and am just about to install a new radiator and A/C condensor as well. Also, I have a BRAND NEW, from Volvo front spoiler that I just had painted, that I just need to install (with new air guide as well). I've done a ton of work on this car and she is NICE. If I were to sell it, I'd want $6,000.

Overpriced. too many unknowns. If I had a dollar for every time a car "just needed an O2" sensor for a check engine light i'd be rich.
If we Ignore the fact its an R for a moment. Its a $1k car. So how much is the R worth to you? Id say 200 at most. $1200 all-in tops IMO. For comparison, we bought our 98 V70 T5 with 180K on it in Feb for $2100. No check engine light, no ABS light, perfect interior, near perfect exterior.

My $.02 is -- forget the price. Do you want a project car? This is a project car, it's rough. People who buy these either enjoy bringing cars back to life (money, time), or they want something to go from point A to point B for a year (then dump). The point A to B types generally don't care if it's an R, a Turbo, or N/A.
"My car also never had any of these lights on, so I am not really sure what they call for."
That leads me to believe you're not the Project type of guy, so if you're also not the A to B type, move on.

Keep in mind that location determines much of the price. In my neck of the woods, $2k is an absolute steal for this car. You can't get a car that runs for $1000 around here. A friend of mine just sold a non-running 1985 Toyota Corolla with a shot tranny for $1000. Not sure if that's the case in RI however.
Project car? Yes, I agree. Once you take care of the 'projects' this car could run for years trouble free.
I can't see it being worth a paint job and body work though, this could be a great running car but why worry about how it looks?
