What is the Exact idle speed on 850T?

Post by Red-Arrow »

I have noticed that my idle looks to be around 975rpm to 1100.

I thought it would be around 800-850rpm? I think I have a vacuum leak in the EVAP system but I don't know if that would affect the idle speed?

Between 850-900 RPM.

If it's as high as 1100, your IAC valve may need to be cleaned, the flaps inside get a little sticky over the years. Check that the throttle cable wheel is fully shut too.

+1

It will be higher if you are just starting the car on a cold morning but once it gets to running temperature, it should sit between 850 and 900 RPMs.

850-900 is what I thought it should be. It doesn't help that the rpm gauge is a little funny at the 500 to 1000 rpm range.

I cleaned the idle control valve and the TB but I didn't check to see if its completely shut with a feeler gauge. I will double check the throttle cable and make sure the flap is not open more than it should be.

Still would a leak in the EVAP system create a vacuum leak that would throw the idle off?

I find that the gauge isn't very accurate. Once the car warms up, my scangauge stays solidly at 840 while the volvo gauge looks 900ish.
