Speculated p0442 causer ??
Speculated p0442 causer ??
I just remembered after two weeks of looking for a leak, causing this p0442 to keep coming back, that about a month ago i found a small hole the ribbed hard plastic tube going from the airbox to the turbo. My question is could a hole in that tube cause the p0442 (small leak, EVAP) code? and how to repair a hole in plastic? I cant simply put tape over it becuase of the ribbs..thanks

No, totally different cause.
Get a new tube from a JY or something - I think you'll find your car has more power.
As for the EVAP leak, check the vacuum lines up from the purge valve to the intake manifold and from there to the canister. You've probably got a similar leak in one of them.

So, am I correct in saying if my purge valve is faulty (if I can blow through both sides) that will cause a p0442? or only the lines to that valve??

The cause of the P0442 on my S70 was a very small hole in the J hose that attaches to the charcoal canister. Not sure if the 850 is laid out the same but might be worth a look. Cheap and quick repair.
I dont have a 'J-hose' configuration on my canister, so no worries about that I have checked those line over and over hoping to fix this darn leak. what i now need to know is would a smoke test figure out where my leak is indefinitely or is it just a waste of money/time? I drove it five miles home from the auto store and thats all it took to create a 'pending' p0442 code and it shows up in the freeze data meaning it has to be recurrent to illuminate the CEL. I am also pretty sure my gas cap is fine I have checked the rubber seal it is intact. so smoke test or no and what is the usual charge for a smoke test??

A smoke test is a good idea. If you have any other air leaks the ECU hasn't detected, you will find those also.
I have seen prices for a smoke test for less than $100.
Just start calling auto repair shops to get prices. Everyone's hurting right now, you might find a screamin' deal.
