Replacing front rotors
Replacing front rotors
What is the general procedure in changing the front rotors on a 2007 S60? Much appreciated.

I need to do this on our '04 V70 pretty soon. I would think it's the same.
Take off wheels, take calipers loose by loosening the hex bolt and prying the caliper apart and then disconnecting it. Use a bungee or other way to hold it up. Be careful of the ABS wheel sensors. Now, take the 4 bolts loose from the rotor and tap it out (it could be rusted on so you might need a sledge). Reverse order and you should be good to go. Probably a good idea to replace pads when you do this- then follow brake pad replacement procedure and make sure you bleed your brake lines.
Can anyone add anything else? Seems straight forward. I found that the brakes on my '04 are not really much different than the earlier 850's or my S70. Very easy cars to do brakes on- would think one further layer in on the rotors would be the same.

Don't forget to slop the pads with no squeal brake pad grease
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

Oh yes, very good point indeed!!! And...I have learned that the Volvo stuff is the very best- I have used others and have had squealing after awhile but not with the Volvo white paste they sell.

Make sure to pay attention to the anti-rattle spring clip that is on the outside of the calipers. This is kinda tricky to get back in once you pry it out when dis-assembling.
On the 7mm hex bolts for top caliper, I used high-temp anti-size on the threads. Same with the aluminum bolts holding in the caliper mounting assembly.
When you take off the rotor mounting screw (10mm i think) make sure you don't over tighten when installing on the new rotors. I guess these have a tendency to strip. The nut is just to hold the rotor in place when the wheel and calipers are off so just needs to be snug.
