XC90 Front Seat Stitching coming apart

Post by jbarrow8081 »

Hi Everyone,

I have an 04 xc90 with about 58k miles. I bought the car used a few years ago and soon after the horizontal stitching in the drivers seat (the seat not the back rest) started to come apart. As it was still under warranty the dealership replaced the entire seat cover at no charge. Now, with what I would consider to still be very low mileage the same thing is happening to the other front seat - very frustrating. I have a friend with a "90" and his seat is having the same issue. Conversely, I also have a v70 with 150k miles and it does not have any issue like this.

My question is the following: is this a known issue with the xc90 and/or are others experiencing the same problem?

Thanks so much for the help!

Joe

Don't know how common this is, but I am experiencing the same issue on the passenger seat of my '03 with 92,000. Neither my wife or I are overweight, but it continues to get worse nonetheless. I am hoping to be able to take the seat apart so that I can re-sew the seam, but not banking on this being an easy task....

The hard part is already done; all you have to do is fill the holes with good thread.
Either hand stitch or hand it over to your local upholstery shop.
The thread probably got eaten up by the UV rays. The cloth seats from my '86 745 lasted until just last year when I disposed of the whole car.
