Continuing the search for a wagon.. 04 XC70?

Post by jbrown122 »

I need to move up from the 99, It's getting very needy.
I found a really nice 04 XC70 (155k ) new brakes, tires, front suspension and its in perfect shape inside and out.
I took a look today, didn't drive it. But it started fine and ran good. No lights, smoke, etc. Always dealer serviced.

I'm a little nervous about the AWD system, and the tranny. I haven't heard of many complaints with the transmission however, so I'm guessing it's fine? I know I'll have to check the fluid however. Also, I know nothing about the all wheel drive system. I know about the early (98ish XC's) being a little problematic. Do these usually behave? Is it haldex?
Besides the normal, does anyone have any advice/suggestions on what to look out for or check? I'll have it for most of Saturday.

It's a good price, and I really want another wagon. I passed up an 03 V70 a little while back.

TIA

04's don't have any notable AWD or transmission problems. I'd take it to a Volvo indie mechanic to get it checked out. At that mileage suspension component condition and engine mounts will be a concern.

Do have a full service done when you buy it.

You might find more hints in the Volvo Buyer's Guide.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

With 155K on an 04 it better be a good price.
That's a ton of miles on a 6-7 year old car, 25K a year!

Thanks, I was kind of put off about the mileage, It looks like it has 10k on it. But what do you think would be a fair price? KBB says $6500ish ,they're asking less than that

Don't let the miles alone scare you. Most likely highway miles.

Find out if is a one owner vehicle. If it is that's a major plus, most likely that owner had the car serviced and maintained regularly to put those kind of miles yearly and to continue to drive it.

Drive it, pay a volvo shop to inspect the car and if it checks out and the price indeed is less than $6500, I say go for it.

That's what I figured, it must have been serviced regularly and everything has to be up to date. the car is a 2 owner, the 2nd owner put most of the miles on it in 2 years so I do think they're highway miles. I'll take it all day Saturday and see how I feel, thanks again all!

Where are you located?
I'm going to be bidding on several this week, one tomorrow and two on Friday
One 2003 with 98K miles and two 2005s, one with 85K and one with 95K.
All of these seem to be pretty good XC's.

When I sell a car, EVERYTHING is thoroughly serviced and anything needing to be addressed is fixed, both cosmetically and mechanically but I these will certainly sell for more than 6-7K
