Hey, CN;
Just caught you on one of my other posts, regarding MY fuel pump situations! For the record... I have a 93 Volvo 850; I *think* the fuel pump died--ask me in a couple of days when my replacement is finished! If so, it went out at about 151k miles; and I just bought a Walbro to replace it.
There was a Bosch in there, most likely the original one, though I can't prove it. That's all I got...

I think you will find there is no "common" failure rate. Time and/or running low or out of gas seems to be what do most of them in, but they can fail again even if you replace them. It's really just one of those things you fix when it breaks. You can help it out by changing the fuel filter every few years and not letting it run below 1/4 of a tank in the winter; down to E in the summer.
As a kid, ours died in '92 in the '74 BMW, and it had never been replaced before that. It died again 2 years later much to my dad's frustration, and has been working fine since '94.
I had one die at 18 years/201,000 miles on an Accord - it was also a Bosch unit.
My 98's is still original at 183,000 miles.

The fuel pump on my 95 died almost 6 odd years ago at 114k, I have no idea what brand pump was used to replace it as I was not the owner.
The original factory fuel filter on the Volvo until yesterday when I replaced it. Totally ridiculous that nobody changed it! After all 216K miles on my car which means its filtered around 33,000 liters of fuel or 8700 gallons ruffly. I believe filters lose the majority of efficiency at around 8000 to 10,000 liters. This creates a greater load on the fuel pump and premature death.

Life would be enjoyable if it wasn't so painful to live.
