Car won't start....

..nothing at all apart from lots of relays clicking. Suspected an earth fault and found cable from engine/gearbox broken at the chassis earth point. The connection from battery to chassis is sound. Could this be my problem? I'm also puzzled by how the cable broke, it looks like a clean cut. Cheers, pete

I'm not a betting man but would stake a lot on that being the fault. Without that earthing lead you are using such things as the throttle cable to earth the engine.

How it broke.....how cold has it been in Norfolk recently? Certainly up here in the North East we have had record lows for December. The cold itself shouldn't have caused the break but it could have helped if there was any weakness in the connector.
