Many of us here on the site have installed it & use it to look up repair procedures, parts numbers, etc.
While it can be useful for some things and does specify torques, etc., at best, it is hard to find what you're looking for and the instructions are very mediocre. That's why people on the site here make detailed write-ups for working on various parts of the car. I have never tried to hook my laptop into the car, so I have never tried out those features.
For most of the versions out there, you need to set the system date to June 1, 2004 and reboot your computer before attempting to install it. After that, mount the ISO file using a program like PowerISO to a virtual drive, and then run the setup program directly from there. It takes foreverrrrrrrr to install, but once it does, reset your system date and reboot again before attempting to run.
You will then need to setup a user name to access the information in the program. Make sure you select all options for that profile so that you can access everything.

I run Vadis on my Windows XP Pro laptop. It's quite good as a part number finder, and for checking if one model's parts can be used on another, though you'll find so may superceding numbers at the dealer it's a joke. For example the O ring seals for the sump (only two part numbers from memory) have superceded to a kit containing just about every O ring for the whole engine with some paper gaskets of unknown application thrown in for good measure!!
As far as Win 7 64 bit, once you follow jablackburn's instructions you may find you'll have to run it in compatability mode for XP service Pack 3
To do so: right click on the shortcut to the program on your desktop or in the Programs menu, find the target folder (it should highlight the .exe file)
Right click on the .exe file and select the Compatability tab, then under "Compatability mode" heading tick the checkbox and select Windows XP (Service Pack 3) then click OK at the bottom.
You can be the first to let us all know if it works.

Just to clarify, you will not be able to use the OBD diagnotics portion of VADIS with a generic OBD reader. The part needed for that is around $800+. Basically it will function as a computer-based manual and parts reference, thats all.
Windows 7 is fine, run it in compatibility mode as mentioned.

I have had it on 2 XP Pro machines. My new laptop has Windows 7 64-bit, but I have not tried to install it. Once you mount the image, you can specify that setup and everything else run in a compatibility mode as mentioned if it does not cooperate.

I have just checked and found I have been running mine for 3+ years. I didn't need to set the date to load it and I know of other UK users who haven't had to do this. For most of the versions out there, you need to set the system date to June 1, 2004
For some time now the prices on eBayUK have been a lot lower than on the US site and most UK sellers will ship to the US at reasonable rates.

There is a way to beat the date problem in VADIS. I found and did this and I saved these instructions
- Find file 'C:\info\vvindex\ini\cdinfo.ini' (assuming you installed to C: )
- Go to properties and uncheck the read only box (remember to go back when finished and check the box for read only again)
- Open the file and change the values ”WarningDays=150ExpirationDays=180” to 3600 & 3650 respectively
I changed the values to numbers even higher than 3600 and 3650.
If you installed a version of Vadis and haven't had any problems with expiration it could be the seller did the expiry file changes before making the copies.
