'98 V70 2.5 Non Turbo Auto Transmission Removal

Post by JohnnysTubeAmps »

Dear Guys and Girls

I am preparing to remove the Auto transmission from my car (european, RHD), and am following the advice in my Haynes manual (i.e. lowering the sub-frame). What it doesn't tell me is how/where to jack the vehicle during this operation (as the sub-frame is used as the main jacking point),

Can you folks make any suggestions, or direct me to a photo sequence showing how its done?

Many thanks, and Happy New Year,

JTA

I dropped my transmission out from the bottom as well - it was a manual but it was pretty much the same as with an automatic. In my case I set the jack stands just behind the mounting bolts on the rear part of the subframe and it held just fine. You will need to fab up something to support the engine while all of this is going on. I used a 4x4 and a chain with some allthread and a couple of short pieces of U channel:

Thanks Lee,

I've already fashioned something similar to your own fine design, having seen this picture on a previous posting. Many thanks for your advice,

JTA
