volvo won't start
volvo won't start
I own a 89 240 sedan 150,000 on it. A few days ago it died and wouldn't restart. Checked the timing belt looked ok. Checked for a spark at the coil found none; so I changed the coil. Still no spark. While I was working on the car, suddenly I got a spark at the coil. The car started ran for a while, but when I turned it off it wouldn't start again. Any ideas? Thanks Mike
There is a good chance it is either the Hall effects sensor in the distributor or the ignition amplifier. Even though this info is for 700's it is still relevant http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/

hey i have a 1987 volvo 740 and it had the same problm, and my volvo mechanic said it was a ignition control module or something, on my car it was located in the drivers side fender by the air box, it will have a bid 1/2 inch thick wire harness that is attached to it, you have to take out the air box and then youo need to squeeze a piece or metal wire and pull to release the harness, then to module is held on with 2 screws, then it should come right off, i think they are about $150 but i got mine at a foriegn automotive junkyard for $20 and it worked fine, it should take you about 10 minutes to take it out and replace it.

The price level for the origin module seems to be the same in Europe, but a manufacter named Huco is selling a copy called 138002 for less than 50%. Maybe not the same quality, but the origin was not good. Look for that Huco at internet!
