Taking the plung.....maybe

Post by VoVo »

I am a new member, so forgive me if i miss anything...

I was speaking to a friend the other day about my need to purchase a wagon for my new business, and he offered to call his friend to see if he was interested in selling his 2002 V70 2.5T AWD wagon...long story short, this car is mint, he claims he has replaced the timing belt, brakes and performed all scheduled maintenance {again}. I say "again", since the vehicle has 200K on the odometer! I had heard that Volvos, in general, were indestructable when properly maintained, but is this too good to believe?

The car was not for sale, if not for my friends inquiry, and the fact that the original owner just purchased a new XC-70...

The price is $4,000...shall I take the plunge? Any advise? Any maintenance I should inquire about specifically? I will test drive it today.......You'all seem to be having such a great time, I wouldn't want to miss out

Thank you in advance,

VoVo

Too much $$ for a private party sale
This car is worth practically nothing now
Now to basics, the 2002 is the last year for the old VC AWD system, that if one of the main pieces wears out (and they do wear out) will cost you thousands to fix.
Then we have the transmissions, which are not too much better than the disasterous 2001 trannies.
Last, an 02 V70AWD is not the most desireable of models to buy

I have to agree. If I were you, I would not get an AWD volvo unless you look at something 04 or newer. If you do not need AWD, then I would check out a volvo wagon from 94 until 97, and then again in 02 on. 98 through 01 had the bad trottle body issues.

I'm really showing my age.....I should have consulted the Urban Dictionary, prior to using well established slang.....good one!
