Hi, I have a 1994 960 wagon with 235k on it. Has been a great car with little problems. (Yes, I did just post another issue!)
The car has a very strong gas smell that is intermittent. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to the odor. I could walk into the garage first thing in the morning and it may smell very strong, or not at all, but then 20 minutes into driving the smell shows up. Does not seem to matter how full the tank is, or what the temprature is outside. I have run rosin paper the length of the car in the garage and marked where I park; there have only been a few small drips about the center of the engine compartment. I use an independent mechanic with a very good reputation, and he can't find anything. He thinks I should not be driving, due to possibility of fire, but it is my only car, so I am anyway-
Any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks!!!!
intermittent Gas smell
Yes-
The only thing I have (possibly) seen, is 'wet' at the end of the fuel injector line. I ran rosen paper the length of the car so I could check for drips, being careful to park in the exact same place. The only drips (just a few) were just under the area by the power steering fluid compartment. This area is where the fumes are coming from, not by the injectors-
Thanks for any and all input!!!!
