Wiper Problems

Post by TheBigA »

Hi all! I have a 2000 V40 and my wipers aren't cooperating at all. When I put the switch in the intermittent setting it does nothing, the wipers will turn on in low and high speed settings though. My rear wiper will not turn on unless the switch is on and you pull the lever towards you to wash the front windshield? There is no wash on the rear window anymore, and on all windows when you put the switch in the off position or intermittent setting, all wipers stop where they are on the window and do not comlete thier cycle back to there home position. I'm hoping at this point that its just the switch but I was wondering if anyone els out there is having the same troubles?

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

If that were happening on my car I would suspect the wiper switch immediately. You could try squirting a little WD40 into the switch. It won't harm it but it may cure it.

I feel so stupid, I always think of the worst possible thing! Haha, had it in the shop the other day for just up keep service, the guy said that I had a blown fuse under the steering column, He said it went to my automatic antena but I dont have one, I noticed leaving there that the all the wipers work again! Thanks for your advise thought I thought it was the switch too! I'm really glad it wasn't though! HAHA
Thanks again

Thank you for the update. I would never have thought 'fuse' as it had some functions. We live and learn.
