I purchased a radio (HU-613 to replace HU-413) for my 2001 XC70 from an auto salvage yard. The salvage dealer did provide me with the VIN from the donor Volvo.

When I visited my dealer to have it installed, they said that Volvos thru 2000 only required a security code for stereo installation. Volvos 2001 and newer like mine will not accept a stereo from a different Volvo because the VIN is different and
