Hmmm, seems to be some kinda of after market stereo connection for maybe an ipod/XM radio device. That thick black plug looks to be the same size as the antenna mast that plugs into the back of the radio. Is there any way you can trace those red/black/yellow wires to see where they go, and what they connect to?

That may also be one of the Lojack like competitors products. There has been at least one and maybe more companies that marketed the stolen vehicle locator service that car dealers would install and sell a year or two service for some $$ and then there would be mailings and sales pitches to renew. I have seen real LoJack hardware before and it didn't look like that.
Are you sure this isn't a factory component? There arent any marks for a serial number or anything. All that it has is an OK sticker.
I have noticed that I can't get any channels via FM2, thought that may have something to do with it.
How can I test this out since Volvo uses fiber optic antenna wiring?

Trace the wires back into your center console and first see where they lead. My gut tells me it is some kind of after market device. The big black plug looks to be an antenna mast extension, and would do you no good. But, given the fact that in your first photo it looks like that top wire was cut and wrapped with black electrical tape, I would assume that whatever device connected to it was taken when the previous own sold the vehicle. I know this isnt good news, but just wanted to shed some light on it for you.
