Hi:
I was told by the mechanic that the brake pads and the rotors have to be replaced on the VOlvo 850s. I think this is crap. Any advise on only if the brake pads can be replaced and also suggestions on where to buy the brake pads ?
I've never worked on cars before, but is replacing brake pads an easy enough task with proper manuals ?
Thanks in advance
replacing brake pads
Many run two sets of pads and after the second set are worn replace the rotors and pads. The front wear much faster than the rear . I found that Volvo pads do not have the "squeal" as many others, but give off a lot of dust. Both are any easy DIY project

This is a normal maintenance item. Replacing the rotors is easier than replacing the pads and OEM rotors aren't too expensive.

The brakes are not hard. I do recommend having a service manual as reference on all types of repairs. If you use quality non-OEM parts you will not have the brake squeal - IPD, NAPA, and many other suppliers have various grades of rotors and pads. You get what you pay for

very big volvo repair place in my town (ritzy town)
asked him about this today and he said they only replace the rotors if they need it, and not with every pad change.
im about to replace my rear pads and im not buying new rotors quite yet.
