Would a new muffler mess anything up? Like one to give a new sound?

Go for it. As was offered up previously, I'd try removing the resonator first and seeing how you like that sound; then you can decide whether or not to go with another muffler.

Is the resonator the mid muffler? Where is it? And what is it?
