Wheel Wiggles, Ball Joint or Bearing?

Post by jehlinger »

I recently replaced my passneger side ball joint and control arm on the advice of my mechanic (did work myself). I knew he was being honest because I could see lateral movement when I jacked the car up and actually see the joint wiggle a little.

When I was looking at the other side, to see if the driver side needed a new ball joint too, I noticed that wheel moved also. But this one only moves vertically. i.e. when suspended, I grab the top and bottom of the wheel and it wiggles, but I see no movement in the ball joint area.

Could this be the bearing? He didn't mention it this summer when he mentioned the ball joint . . . Perhaps I'll find out when I take it in for inspection in December? :?

Any movement at all with the wheels is a sign of suspension issue...ball joint or tie rod ends. Also, for a '93, remember the that Timing Belt is every 50K miles and not 70K like it is for '94's and beyond. Regards.
