Getting more hpw out of a non-turbo?

Post by upstate NY »

I was wondering if there was any way to get more horse power out of my 850 glt wagon. Without a turbo, am I pretty much dead in the water? I would love to keep this particular vehicle it's just that there seems to be nothing I can really do with it? Ideas? or is this the same old story with non turbo owner's

86 740 GLE wagon 140,000
Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead. I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ.

You don't.
Enjoy it or sell it and buy a turbo

Look up the 850 airbox mod that involves jamming the flap to the cold air side. This will get you more power back than having it stuck to the hot air side.

The 960 throttle plate mod also gives you a bit more zip from a stop.

Those are really about all that you can do to an NA engine without spending lots of money for little gain.

Good counsel from the man who said "sell it, buy one with the turbo". If you go turbo...you'll never go back...good common sense...have you ever met anyone with a turbo that wished it to be the other way around?
