Can I Install a Used ETM?

Post by c21no1 »

I really don't have an extra $650 to put out for a Xemodex ETM right now for my wife's 2000 S*), I found a 6 month old (used) OEM type online, can I put that in to get me by or will I have to have my computer programmed for it to wor? If I need the car programmed, any idea how much that may cost? I am trying to avoid throwing money away, I know the right thing to do would be to buy the Xemodex one but, it's just not possible right now.

I realize this is an old post but for the benefit of those going through a failing or failed ETM I post this:

While you can put in a used ETM you *will* need to go to a Volvo dealership and have them reprogram your car; the software to do this is *only* available at the dealership. What will more than likely happen when installing the used ETM is the car will operate in the "limp home" mode ...and if your dealership is a distance this condition could be untenable for getting you safely to your dealer ...you may have to flatbed your car to the dealer.
