Instrument panel - replacement bulbs

Post by SeamyL »

Does anybody know the procedure to replace the backlight bulbs to the instrument panel. Your help would be appreciated

I replaced the instrument panel bulbs on my 2000 s80 recently. It was pretty easy. Here goes:
1. remove the bezel for the panel (only two torx screws under dress clips hold it in - top underside)
2. remove 4 torx screws holding the panel in (2 each side)
3. pull the panel far enough forward to unplug the single cable from the rear of the panel.
4. pull panel out from dash.
5. the backlight bulbs (I think there are 5) are in holders that simply twist and pull out. the bulb pulls out of the holder and the replacement pushes in. the bulbs are easily available from Autozone or Advance Auto Parts.
6. reverse the procedures to re-install. I recommend checking the bulbs by turning on the lights after the panel plug is re-inserted, but before the panel is screwed back in. if all is okay, proceed.
It's about a 15 minute job if you have the right torx tools and bulbs.
Good luck!

Thanks for the info. By unplugging the cluster, does that set any codes after you re-install?

No, it did not set any codes for me. As I understand it though, you must make sure not to turn the ignition key on while any module is disconnected or you will set codes.
