v40 noise on starting up

hi im new and if anybody can help it would be great i have a noise coming from a small motor under the battery area of my v40 it sounds like a vacum cleaner and last for only a couple of minutes the car starts okay and the noise stops after a couple of mins any one any idea what it is ?

Could it be the fuel pump?

Hi Chrissy (and any other readers),

I know you posted this question some time ago, but did you ever work out what was causing the noise? The reason I ask is that my V40 2.0 has started to make exactly the same noise, which cuts out as you described. Any comments (or from anyone else) would be gratefully received. Many thanks!
