my first post hello all is my auto box on the way out

Post by carlosfandango »

Hi all well firstly this is my first post so hello only recently found this site and i have been looking at few posts over the past week and it has been a wealth of information so much information i am impressed.

Well for my first post the one i seem to think i am am not going to like the answer to IS MY AUTO KNACKERED

I have been browsing through threads reading about problem early autos mine is an 2001 t-5 geartronic 166k high milage yes i know thats a bad start but my other volvo has 233k and still going strong .Anyway i only recently got the car and having 2 t-5 already i have learnt a bit about them wish i found this site earlier .i gave the car a good drive and picked up on a couple of smaller problems which i can sort but at the time no auto problem.i have read about slipping and such but i dont know if mine is slipping or not.i have been driving car today and generally it has been fine acelerating on motorway and traffic ok. 1st hint of problem was came to roundabout at normal speed went round it to the right and as i accelerated off i got a slight knock i suppose i could call it a delay engaging in to gear.2nd one was i was driving at about 40mph and slipped gearstick across to manual mode (i never used this)and i got a knock then but then was fine and other than that it has been fine all day .i have it booked in next week to an independent volvo mechanic for an atf change and general check over is there anything he should look for .Hhe does not have all the diagnosis equipment like the main dealer but does a good job so should i really be getting main dealer to do the atf change to make sure i get the best feedback from possible problems.also please enlighten me about these software updates also a possible diagnosis of my problem would be good .i do like the car as does my wife and dont really want to get rid of it so soon but it seems that after reading threads on here these early models should be avoided! just for the gearbox alone.

many thanks

You need to go to a shop with VIDAS (Volvo diagnostics) any other is a waste of time on a 2001 and newer Volvo
Is it shot, probably, but a service with some new software downloaded. This may help you as it doesn't sound too bad...yet
YOUR MECHANIC CANNOT DO THIS
