Recommend tires for a 2000 S80

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Recommend tires for a 2000 S80

Post by brookedeane7 »

So, we just bought a 2000 S80 with high milage (128,000 to be exact). The car seems to be in very good condition and clean for the year. Was this a good purchase?? Also, it needs new tires. Can someone recommend a good all season tire. Thank you!! :?:

If you could give more details about the car then myself or someone more experienced could probably help you out with your question of it being a good purchase. Personally I don't think 128k miles is a lot for a 2000. Most people average 12k a year so 128k is a little above average.

Unfortunately I don't know much about tires so I'll let someone else chime in.

I have a 2001 S80 T6 Executive and my brother has a 2000 S80 T6. I would recommend Hankook Ventus HRII 405 tires. 225/50R17 if you have the factory 17" wheels. I had a set of these on my 2001 Eclispse GT for about a week and loved them till I hit a deer and totaled the car. I sold the tires to my brother for his S80 and he loves them. Drove a Saab 900S for a while be for I got my S80 and it has michelins on it and I don't like them. Drove my brothers car to see how the Hankooks handled and wish I had kept them. I'm in need of tires soon and I know what I'm getting, you can buy them for about $100 each so you can't beat the price for what get in these tires. Got any other questions just ask, I'll help if I can.
I want it due to the shear inability to continue life without it!!

This site has been a help to me in the past so I'm just trying to return it when I can. If you do have 17" wheels here's a link for you.

I run Goodyear Assurance Triple Tread tires on 04 Corrola, the car has nearly 300,000 mi. with zero malfunctions. They are a mediem compound and offer great grip and wear well with rotation every 5,000 mi. I will purchase a set for my newly aquirered 2000 S80 as soon as needed. They should cost about a thousand dollors at retail, but should be far less at the site mentioned by the poster before me. I have the good fortune to have a friend in the tire biz. The Michelins are overated and over priced.

Recently I have been doing some research and It looks like the Hankook Ventus I mentioned are being phased out. The problem with that is if anyone buys them you could run into problems if you have a warranty issue. After more digging and some accumulative opinions I am going with a touring tire on my S80 T6. This will give you that smooth ride you like and the sportiness you want. Nitto has a new touring tire out the NT850. From what I'm seeing they have good reviews on wet and dry not so good for snow, not really an issue in Talladega AL. They are not much higher in price than the Hankook I previously mentioned and when you compare the specs of the two it's worth a little more.
