power steering, dex to petosin
Getting ready to do a power steering fluid change on my 02 V70XC 114k. There is dex in there now , because I listened to the dealer in 04' when we bought the car
, come to find that the petosin is the CORRECT fluid. My concern is that I hear that the two fluids do not mix well and it will be impossible to get all of the dex out. So the question is will the small amount of risudual dex fluid hurt anything? Thanks, Ive owned Volvos since 04 (and wanted one ever since the 850s were introduced), but recently found this and other forums and the knowledge here is amazing!

I would say put the correct stuff in there. It will cost you money but I would drain the DEX fill with the correct drive a little and repeat 3-4 times. You will never get it all out but you will get enough out this way. NEVER NEVER trust a dealer, especially if they work on the sales side of the complex!

If the two mix they create lots of foamy gook that is hard to get out of the system.
I would flush the system completely. Pull the hose from the PS pump and drain it into a bucket while making sure that you keep the fluid in the reservoir topped off with the new Petosin fluid. So long as you pump out the old stuff, it will suck in the new and (should) push 99% of the old Dex-III out of the system.
