What Service Manuals are there?

I wanted to find out what service manual people use. I have 2001 Volvo s40 and found that I can purchase a British S40 Haynes manual but I don't think it covers the 1.9liter turbo that I have here in the states. Is there a dead tree version of a Chilton's manual or are they doing online only now? I certainly prefer a paper manual that I can beat around in the garage rather than an online version where I have to pay yearly subscriptions. However, if I can print out pages of an electronic copy, that should suffice. I have heard about the VADIS software but don't quite know what or how to purchase this or if the ebay sales are something worth looking at.

VADIS is good for the later cars which includes yours. The version you need is the 2006 which was the last one produced by Volvo before they changed the system. It has a good repair section with clear pictures to help.

It is readily available on eBay but check the prices on the UK site as they are usually cheaper than on the US site and most sellers will ship to the US.

Often I see pdf's of service diagrams posted on this site. Is there a source for these?

VADIS is the usual source.
