Ram Air

Post by dcunited122 »

On my Na 850 theres a plate a couple inches in front of the intake, would it perform better if I removed this and created kind of a ram air intake? I'm not really sure if I can remove the plate easily but let me know. Thanks

i have the updated version of the 850 (the s70), and i took my plate off on my car. what u do is unscrew the screw and then slide the plate perpendicular from the direction the screw came out. i have hade it like that for a few years now and have had no problem with it.

when u say intake i hope your talking about the tubing before the airbox, b/c thats what i am refering to. i have not messed w/ anything after the air gets to the airbox.

yes absolutely before the box, right in the grill area, so did this give you any performance gains at all?

i just looked at the link above, and think that would be even better because the hose is even less restrictive. remember though, the main objective is to get large amonts of cold air to the airbox(the "ram air" effect is minimal even at high speeds). so even if you don't want to cut a hole in the grill for your tube, at least route the tube below the engine where it is cool, (remember heat rises). But whatever you do be aware that with the intake closer to the ground, ram air or not, you have to be careful of driving though high water(engines don't like it when they suck in water).

when looking for tubing, make sure the inside is as slick as possible
