TERRIBLE NOISE WHEN DRIVING IN THE RAIN, ?WET MAIN BELT?

Post by RLEBBING »

Please help. I got my S60 because I was in a traumatic crash in the rain when my Infinity G35 hydroplained into a median. I wanted a SAFE car. Now when I drive in the rain, my Volvo has begun making this horrible, loud, screaching noise. The service department says it is probuably just a wet main belt and not to worry about it. BUT, it is so loud and horrible, I am freaking out. Please advise.

This appears to be happening to others. The first time I drove in wet snow three days ago. This loud high pitched squeal or vibration noise is heard. It is unclear if it is coming from the front or rear and what side. You can rev up the engine and the noise stays the same. You can only get ride of the noise and it stops when you stop. Then when you accelerate the noise comes back. I found this only happening while I was in the snow. On wet and rainy roads it didn't happen. Need to find out if this can be fixed. Or I will have to sell the car. unbearable to dive with this noise.

Hello,

This scared my wife the 1st time it happened and still happens. Two dealers treated me like a nutcase until ... volvo fessed up and disclosed what the problem is.

It seems that the swedish meatheads crammed the driveshaft so close to the tailpipe that when the area gets douched by rain or snow TEHY RUB TOGETHER.

For $235 they will sell me a bracket they designed to fix the problem that I've been complaining about for three years [they won't even give me the part]. It is a bracket that holds the muffler and shaft apart.

Your dealer is doing the same dimwit shuffle that I've come to expect from volvo -- if you don't know exactly what is wrong with the car, they won't tell you. They want you to be out of warranty when every visit to the dealer costs $1000.

Never another volvo - NEVER.

There are tons of equally safe cars available.

Good luck

Mika

I don't have an AWD so I am not sure if I know what I'm talking about, but I hear that there's a bracket that should be taken out because it can cause trouble. It's done by the dealers in Europe, but for some reason not in the USA.
