camshaft seals & timing belt

Post by Guest »

I am about to do the timing belt on a 1998 V70 XC and was wondering about the camshaft seals. Would it be a good idea to replace them as well. The car has 160K on it and I plan to keep it.
Thanks, Lou

Hmm, I'm gonna be doing this same job when I do my cam swap coming up pretty soon here. There are 4 cam seals (2 front and 2 rear). I know that at least one of the rear ones can be replaced w/o taking the valve cover off, probably both rear ones though. The front ones however would require removal of the valve cover and camshafts. I can't say I've ever heard of the front cam seals leaking though, so I don't think it's necessary to mess with them. That being said, it certainly wouldn't hurt to replace the one rear cam seal. It really is quite easy.

Thanks for the tips. I guess the seals won't be issue as much as the belt and tensioner.
