Bummer. You can try some ATF with a stop-leak additive; several have had success with that.

The P0172 is in no way related; that is 99% of the time caused by a vacuum hose leak somewhere. My first suspect is always the elbow behind the alternator/power steering pump attached to the left side of the intake manifold.

Don't let the picture of the intake manifold out of the car scare you; that's just a good picture of where it is.

So now my car has been checked out and a new (or used) steering rack (AA1 26-1995), Dextrin fluid (is this just trans fluid, or does it come as p/s fluid too), and alignment. Have been told the leak has stopped.
But when I drive the car, the steering wheel is tight (has never been this way before). Turns are much tighter, and if I let go of the wheel, it feels as tho it needs to be aligned. Was told this is unusual. The low sound that was present prior to having this work done seems to have disappeared. Was told I might need a p/s pump. Help is welcome.
