Wheel bearing is funny business, it may last 200K miles or it may die at 20K miles (the 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey van is known for this premature bearing failure problem).

The average lifespan of a bearing is about 150K miles.

How to damage a bearing, assuming it is a good bearing such as FAG or SKF?
This is how you kill a bearing prematurely:
- Driving through deep water ---> water enters bearing and destroys it
- Hitting too many potholes!
- Aggressive driving: hard cornering etc. will kill the bearing

If you drive conservatively, the bearing should last more than 150K miles.

Drive aggressively? Who does that?

The wheel bearings are a common problem on FWD Volvos. I had one die about as soon as I hit 180,000.

FCP sells them; I don't know who else.

I don't have an S70, but do have an 05S60 and I'm getting to replace both rear wheel hub assemblies due to the the RH going bad now. It's to loud in the car the interior is starting to vibrate from the noize. I actually started to notice mine failing in the fall of this year at only 80K on the car. I don't drive agressively, never in standing water, and drive mostly on the highway to and from work. I have done some investigation, and from what I can gather this rather common for Volvos across the board. I just hope it's an easy change.....

If one gets about 150K miles out of a bearing, that is good because 150K is the average service life of a bearing, give or take a bit.

The Volvo OEM bearing is actually very good, with life about 130-190K or so. I don't think the Volvo OEM bearing is crab.

BOTH FAG and SKF are very very good brands!

Sometimes it's not the bearings failed, it is wheel lugs/axle nut not torqued properly, hence bearings got destroyed.

According to Volvo:
"The manufacturer of the OEM bearings for a 2000 V70 is: Ina; they're located in Germany. (Ina.com)"
