98' V70 SC900 problem

Post by urmas97 »

Hello!

I just bought a 98' V70, but it has a problem with SC900 unit. I have all the neccessary equipment in the car for Dolby sound, but the 3 CD-Box doesn't work ( does nothing when I insert it into the unit). I was wondering if I could buy some non-Volvo CD changer and use it instead of the original Volvo CD changer Volvo CD changer in ebay . If I could I would buy the original Volvo CD changer, but if I can't, is there a possibilty to use some other changer and how it affects the sound ( is the Dolby sound still as good as with original?)

If you want to use a 6 disc trunk changer it must be a VOLVO unit
They're cheap enough on Ebay, usually 100 or less
(CALL Erie; 1-888-volvo-13 and offer them $85 for that one)
Either that or exchange yours for a new (rebuilt 901) from Volvo at a cost of about $400!

Is there anything I should specially look for except for the Volvo sign on the CD changer. They sell these with different names on ebay. Some are for newer V70 and some for different models like S80 etc. Are all of these suitable with the SC900 or is there a catch somewhere?

PS. I think I won't call that number, because I live in Estonia and it would be quite expensive, but thank you for that number.

I'll be happy to call them for you, I know them well and have a wholesale accout
You need a changer for an 850/S70 or V70 1995-2000.
You will also need a cable and your English is quite good

:) Thank you, I got all the information I was looking for. My SC900 is in the hands of an electric-guy at the moment, but if he fails to fix the unit, I will take contact with you about the CD changer.

Isn't some Alpine CD-changer also with the correct connector since the SC900 is an Alpine product?

The car is great. I love the light leather interior. Everything seem to work fine at the moment, also the mechanical side of the car seem to be in a good shape. I've had a 200 km trip on motorway/city, and since estonian roads are so bad in spring, they reveal much of the faulty parts of the car. I'm a big fan of audio quality and it really pisses me off, that I can't listen music ( or even radio at the moment). Moreover I want to feel the quality of a Dolby system.

EDIT: I forgot to tell that its 2,5TD manual

OT: Do you know, if somebody has made a topic about what should I first change in my Volvo ( oil, belts...)? Can be an estonian site also.

Okei, good news, my CD is now working. Bad news is that the center channel doesn't in dolby mode. How can I check the speaker, in other words how to remove the center speaker cover?

If you're positive that the DOLBY unit was plugged back in when you reinstalled the radio, then:
The cover is held to the speaker with four plastic "barbed" posts that lock into the speaker.
Get something wide and flat that won't mar the dash pad and pry the cover up until you think it'll break.
Then one or two corners will pop loose and you can get the other grill posts to come free.
From there, remove two TORX screws and you can remove the speaker.

The speaker itself is quite likely broken. And I do mean literally and physically broken.
The original version was prone to the magnet snapping and completely locking up the voicecoil.
Since this is a very specialized shallow speaker, the magnet and voice coil are "upsidedown" in the cone.
If it's broken, you'll know as soon as you remove the grill. Half of the magnet was just rolling around in mine...
Volvo now sells a new version with a reinforced magnet. I'll post the P/N for the LH drive version later this evening.
