OBD2
Re: OBD2
ok will go home and check on these items in a few, hopefully its not the cam position sensor, this car was running fine before i changed the starter. So far i've only gotten a code for the TPS not cam sensor so i'm keeping fingers crossed !
ok, talked to volvo service department and they confirmed it was not anti-theft because the starter would not engage if it was an issue with anti-theft system. So I can still turn engine over but never cranks. Replaced plugs, wires, distrib. cap and rotor button because i was not getting spark, now i still have no spark. Had a friend come over and he traced power from starter to ignition coil which was good but none coming out of coil. He had to leave, but i replaced the coil and still no spark ? What to do next ? Could this be cam sensor, if so what do they $$ run and are they easy to replace ? What other possibilities still exist ?

Pull out an injector to see if it is firing.
If you have neither spark nor fuel being injected, it is the cam sensor. I believe they run about $200, but they're easy to replace at least.
You can get a used one for much, much cheaper if you have any junkyards by you.

can you go into more detail on how to check to see if injector is firing please ? Is there only one cam sensor on 96 850 turbo ? I can't remember if it is cam sensor or knock sensor that has two ?
Thanks for answering all my questions , you've been a big help in this troubleshooting process !

If you have a test light or some kind of voltmeter that can read quick voltage variations there is no need to completely remove the injector. You would simply undo the plug and watch for indication of a signal being sent to the injector to fire. If you don't, remove the fuel rail slightly and watch for the injectors firing when the engine is cranked.

Ok, I didn't feel comfortable messing with the fuel injectors by myself so my friend is coming over today to help determine if they are firing. But I did change out the cam sensor last night just to see, and still no spark. Question is what else can cause me so much trouble getting spark to my sparkplugs ? I'm just at a total loss over this car right now, I have no idea on what to check next ? Car was running fine it HAD to have a new starter, I replace it and BAM now i cant even get the engine to do anything except turnover ? PLEASE HELP !!! Like I said I don't know where to go from here, what to check next !!
